Is the BYD Seal 6 DM-i worth considering?

Our view. The 19 kWh Comfort is the version to look at, with 65 miles of WLTP electric range in the UK and DC charging, while the Boost has 34 miles and AC charging only. It earned five Euro NCAP stars, but no independent range or fuel test was found, so real-world economy is unconfirmed.

BYD Seal 6 Comfort Lite, saloon, left-hand drive, 1,797 kg. Euro NCAP 2025 protocols; adult occupant 92%, child occupant 90%, vulnerable road users 84%, safety assist 85%. Five stars, published 19 November 2025; the page does not list which variants are covered, though its rescue sheet refers to a hybrid.

Measured figures are compared only with an official figure in the same unit and test basis; the bar’s tick marks 100% of the claim. Winter results are shown, not judged. How the evidence check works.

How far can it go?

The published reference is Up to 65 miles electric. WLTP combined, BYD UK saloon specification: 34 miles Boost (10.08 kWh), 65 miles Comfort (19 kWh); combined petrol-electric range 935 and 904 miles. ADAC's catalogue lists 54 km and 101 km as maker data for the German Touring estate. Compare it only with figures from the same test cycle. For a plug-in hybrid this is the electric-only range before the engine takes over.

How quickly does it charge?

The highest published DC figure is Up to 26 kW. Comfort only: DC 26 kW, 30–80% in 23 minutes claimed, AC 6.6 kW. Boost has 3.3 kW AC charging and no DC. BYD UK.. A peak rate is reached briefly; the average across a session is lower.

Home charging time depends on the energy added, the car’s AC limit, the charger and the supply. Estimate a session with this car’s battery.

What to check before buying

Who is it for?
Drivers who can charge at home, want a large saloon or estate with low running costs on short trips, and do not want to rely on public chargers for long journeys.
What needs checking?
Which battery the car has, as the Boost has half the electric range and no DC charging. Real-world electric range and fuel use with an empty battery have not been independently confirmed, and no recall record could be checked.
What is the evidence?
Official BYD UK figures and a Euro NCAP five-star rating (November 2025). No ADAC, NAF or What Car? test results were found.
