Is the BYD Atto 2 worth considering?

Our view. With the smaller battery, ADAC measured 20.4 kWh/100 km against 16.0 WLTP, or about 250 km instead of 312 km, and What Car?'s UK test pointed to 174 miles against an official 214. It suits mainly local driving; the 64.8 kWh Comfort charges much faster and has a 430 km WLTP range, but no independent test of that version was found.

    20.4 kWh/100 km vs 16 kWh/100 km WLTP

Falls short · 78% Published reference

BYD Atto 2 Boost, 130 kW (177 PS), 45.1 kWh gross, built 03/25–05/26. ADAC Ecotest cycle, Germany. About 28% above WLTP; ADAC derives a 250 km range against 312 km WLTP. The page does not say outright whether charging losses are included, and gives a 65 kW charging peak but no 10–80% time.

Measured figures are compared only with an official figure in the same unit and test basis; the bar’s tick marks 100% of the claim. Winter results are shown, not judged. How the evidence check works.

How far can it go?

The published reference is 312–430 km. WLTP combined, BYD Europe: 312 km Active and Boost (45.1 kWh), 430 km Comfort (64.8 kWh). What Car? reports a 51.1 kWh Boost for the UK with an official 214 miles; not confirmed on a BYD page. Compare it only with figures from the same test cycle.

How quickly does it charge?

The highest published DC figure is 65 or 155 kW. Active and Boost: 65 kW, 10–80% in 37 minutes claimed. Comfort: 155 kW, 10–80% in 25 minutes claimed. BYD Europe.. A peak rate is reached briefly; the average across a session is lower.

Home charging time depends on the energy added, the car’s AC limit, the charger and the supply. Estimate a session with this car’s battery.

What to check before buying

Who is it for?
Drivers who mostly make local and suburban trips and want a small, high-riding electric car with a 400-litre boot.
What needs checking?
Battery size, which differs between markets and trims and decides both range and charging speed. No Euro NCAP rating for the Atto 2 was found, and no recall record could be checked.
What is the evidence?
An ADAC Autotest and Ecotest of the 45.1 kWh Boost (February 2026) and a What Car? real-world range result for the UK Boost (October 2025).
