Our view. The 2026 update addressed the old car's weak points: NAF's summer 2026 test matched both the 506 km WLTP figure and the 30-minute charging claim, and Edmunds beat the EPA range for the US version. Winter results for the earlier car were poor, at 314 km against 460 km in NAF's 2024 test, and the updated car has not yet had a winter test.

What to check before buying
- Who is it for?
- Drivers who want a practical, roomy electric SUV and mostly drive in mild conditions.
- What needs checking?
- Make sure the car is the 2026 update: earlier cars had smaller batteries, slower cold-weather charging and no battery preconditioning. ADAC had not tested the update when this was checked. In the US it is sold as the bZ, and 2026 cars have a recall for a fault in the high-voltage battery control unit.
- What is the evidence?
- Official figures from Toyota Germany and fueleconomy.gov, NAF range and charging tests of the updated car and a winter range test of the earlier car, the Edmunds range test, Euro NCAP and the NHTSA recall database.
